Peter Afflerbach is the author of Teaching Readers (Not Reading): Moving Beyond Skills and Strategies to Reader-Focused Instruction (2022), and Understanding and Using Reading Assessment, K–12 (2018). He is the editor of the Handbook of Individual Differences in Reading: Reader, Text, and Context (2016), and co-editor of the Handbook of Reading Research, Volume IV (2010) and Volume V (2020). He has published in numerous theoretical and practical journals, including Reading Research Quarterly, Cognition and Instruction, Elementary School Journal, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, Language Arts, Theory into Practice, and The Reading Teacher. Prior to his employment at Emory University and then the University of Maryland, Afflerbach served as an elementary school Chapter 1 remedial reading teacher, a reading and writing teacher in middle school, and a high school English teacher.

for the 2023 LLA Summer Institute with the following rates (presenters are required to register for the Institute). Registration will include virtual access to more than 25 sessions and the opening keynote as well as access to all session recordings through Wednesday, October 11, 2023.

- ¥ members: $215
- Nonmembers: $250
- Students: $100
- International registration: $50 USD**
**The international registration rate is available to any international attendee residing and working outside of the US. Please note that this rate is not available through the registration portal. Any LLA Summer Institute registration cancellations after June 15, 2023, will be subject to a $25 processing fee.
Presenter Information
All #LLA23 presenters received an email on June 26th with information for presenting and logging into the event platform. Please locate this email and log in to the Virtual Event Space prior to July 12 to ensure you are able to properly access and navigate the platform before your session time! Below are a few highlights. Email ¥events@ncte.org with questions.
Registration: All presenters are required to register and must do so prior to their presentation. Registration is required in order to access the virtual platform.
Session Handouts: If you have any documents or handouts you’d like available for your session, please email them to ¥events@ncte.org .
- The maximum file size per document is 150 MB.
- Documents can only be in the following formats: *.doc, *.docx, *.ppt, *.pptx, *.xls, *.xlsx, *.pdf, *.jpeg and *.png
- Name your document with your session Title, an underscore, and your document name. Example: “LLA SessionTitle_AttendeeHandout.”
Presenting: All sessions will be presented with Zoom. We ask that all presenters join their session via the event platform 15 minutes before their start time. This will allow you time to get settled into the Zoom and do any troubleshooting prior to your session beginning. All sessions are listed in Eastern Time.
