ELATE Luncheon featuring Mahogany L. Browne

Mahogany L. Browne, a Kennedy Center Next 50 fellow, is a writer, playwright, organizer, and educator. Browne has received fellowships from ALL ARTS, Arts for Justice, AIR Serenbe, Baldwin for the Arts, Cave Canem, Poets House, Mellon Research, Rauschenberg, and Wesleyan University. Browne’s books includeÌýA Bird in the Air Means We Can Still Breathe,ÌýVinyl Moon,ÌýChlorine SkyÌý(optioned for Steppenwolf Theatre),ÌýBlack Girl Magic, and banned booksÌýWoke: A Young Poet’s Call to JusticeÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýWoke Baby. Browne’sÌýChrome ValleyÌýtour was highlighted inÌýPublishers WeeklyÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýTheÌýNew York Times. Founder of the diverse lit initiative Woke Baby Book Fair, Browne is the 2024 Paterson Poetry Prize winner. She is the inaugural poet-in-residence at the Lincoln Center and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
A book signing will follow the luncheon.
The 2025 ELATE award and research grant recipients will be honored during the Luncheon.
ELATE Commissions Meeting #1

All interested ELATE and Â¥·ïÌìÌà members are invited to come learn about the ELATE commissions. After an overview from each commission, attendees can visit the commissions at roundtables to learn more about past and current commission projects.

Critical Issues in English Education: Research by ELATE Research Grant and Award Winners

In this roundtable session, the recipients of the annual Research Initiative Grant, Graduate Student Research Award, Janet Emig Award, James Britton Award, and James Moffett Memorial Award, sponsored by English Language Arts Teacher Educators (ELATE), present their award-winning works on current issues in the fields of literacy and English teacher education.
ELATE Commissions Meeting #2
1:15–2:30 p.m., Mile High Ballroom 1C/1D, Colorado Convention Center
All interested ELATE and Â¥·ïÌìÌà members are invited to the working meetings of the ELATE commissions. In this meeting, commission members will be focused on ongoing projects and planning for the coming year.
ELATE Â¥·ïÌìÌà Meeting and Social

All those interested in shaping English language arts teacher education are invited to attend this membership meeting and social to mingle with representatives from English education programs nationwide and prospective English education graduate students and PhD candidates.
